Comedy Gold

Genesis chapter 41 KJV
"54 And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, *the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.
56 And the famine was over all the face of the earth: And Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.
57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands."

And then we come to the next chapter.

Genesis chapter 42
"1 Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why do ye look one upon another?
2 And he said, Behold, I have heard that there is corn in Egypt: get you down thither, and buy for us from thence; that we may live, and not die.
3 And Joseph’s ten brethren went down to buy corn in Egypt."

Every time I read the first verse I crack up, other translations render it in a little more typical modern english.

Here's the scene. The food is about to run out. The flocks are probably hungry and thirsty. The end is in sight and Jacob's sons are all sitting around the fire staring at each other. They have no clue how to fix things nor do they likely realize that they can be fixed.

They're just sitting around like a bunch of goobers until their father kicks them in the ass and gets them going in the direction they should go. What I hear in my head is, "Why are you sitting around staring at each other? Get off you asses and go get some food."

So typical, so human.

So much of the personal interactions in the bible could be happening today. They are happening today.

I see this as God's big flag that human nature hasn't changed one bit since Adam watched the serpent talk his wife into eating the Fruit of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

People don't evolve. We are exactly the same today as we were when King David went to the roof to spy on his neighbor taking a bath. I know he wasn't there accidentally.

Our need for God is as total today as it ever has been. May God bless you as you see this.

We know Bathsheba wasn't there by accident either. She knew exactly when and where the king was likely to be. Kings don't have a private life. Everybody knows where they are at all times, it's a matter of state. And Bathsheba's husband, Uriah, was in a position to know state secrets, so even if a part of David's itinerary was made secret she could possibly find out anyway.

At least that's what I remember reading and inferring.

But yeah, David liked the womens.

Major message of the Bible, man can't save himself, man will always mess up, he will always need mercy.

Thank God we can get it.
